Parent Involvement
The Onga Onga Primary School has an open door policy for parents coming to visit their children. As a courtesy though, please make an appointment with Dianne at the office if you wish to discuss your child's progress and arrange a mutually suitable time for you and your child's teacher.
It is inappropriate to "pop in" and expect the teacher to stop what they are doing and talk to you during class time unless it is an emergency. Unless invited parents are also asked not to come into the class before the 3:00 pm bell as this may inhibit the teacher from ending the school day effectively.
We do appreciate the level of support given by parents and many teachers would welcome your offer if you wished to be a parent help. Firstly check with the class teacher on how you can best help. Needs of teachers vary from class to class and levels of the school.
There are four general ways Parents/Family/Whanau can be involved:
- Providing support at home;
- Communicating with the school;
- Volunteering at the school; and
- helping to achieve excellence.
Parent and community members are involved in the life of the school in a host of ways. These include:
- Helping in classroom with the reading programme
- Attending school trips, excursions, camps, sporting outings
- Parent Tutor reading
- Library assistance
- Coaching of school sports teams
- Returning of readers and resources
-
Assisting the School Support Group in Working bees & Fundraising events
As you can see there are many ways that you can help the Onga Onga Primary School to be the best school ever.
